"How Much Do You Weigh?" Review on Geek Mom!

“Next time I go out with my friends, I’m bringing this book. I know it will spark some great conversation. And maybe we’ll be brave enough to tell each other the number that has too much control over our lives. The stigma lifts one person at a time.”

Large quote
Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth.

Henry David Thoreau

“I’ve grown up feeling judged by my size first and other factors second. This is probably an experience many women have, not just large ladies like me. We’re so obsessed by slimness and the obesity ‘epidemic’ and the BMI, it makes me preposterously cranky. Women are encouraged to go on a diet until they’re too skinny, then they’re told to eat a sandwich. I think our culture is far too interested in what people weigh.”

A Sense of Scale for the Holidays

With the holidays approaching, weight anxiety can consume our holiday cheer. Enjoy yourself and send the shame packing!

Large quote
The lure of the distant and the difficult is deceptive. The great opportunity is where you are.

John Burroughs

“‘Beauty is truth, truth beauty,’ - that is all ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.”John Keats

“‘Beauty is truth, truth beauty,’ - that is all ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.

Awesome.

Awesome.

How much I weigh.
That’s me. And that number below, hiding in plain sight, is my weight. And therein lies the project: to show ourselves to the world, and open up that pesky little number that is our weight. And it is our hope, by doing this, that the stigma surrounding that number will be dealt a blow.
That by just the simple knowledge of the weights of other women just like you, we can stand a little taller, and not be dragged down by the taboo every time that we step on the scale; not be prey to those wishing to peddle us diets, pills, and self-help. To not fall into the trap of buying into the unobtainable ideal.
In order to do this, we need brave women of all shapes and sizes, all ages and backgrounds, who are willing to show themselves to the world and open up that secret that is their weight. And shoot a bullet right through that stigma.
